A rep for the rapper told New York Times he was receiving treatment for exhaustion at U.C.L.A. Medical Centre, after his doctor called for assistance.
A source added to People that Kanye, 39, went willingly and freely to the hospital, saying: "He is exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation. He went to the hospital at will under the advice of his physician. He's fine."
It came after Kanye cancelled all remaining 2016 dates on his 'Saint Pablo Tour'.
According to reports, a call was placed to the Los Angeles Police Department, who then passed the incident to the Fire Department as it was said to be a medical matter.
A rep for the Fire Department told BBC News: "At 13:20 Pacific Time, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an unspecified medical aid request. An adult male described as medically stable was taken to an area hospital for further assessment."
They did not name Kanye as the man in question.
Before the hospitalisation, Kanye's mother in law Kris Jenner had alluded to his exhaustion in an interview with US entertainment network Extra. Explaining why Kanye had axed his remaining tour dates, she said: "He's exhausted, he's just really tired. He's had a gruelling tour and it's been a grind so he just needs some rest."
Reports suggest Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian West was due to attend an event in New York City on Monday but didn't appear. It would have been her first public appearance since she was the victim of an armed robbery in Paris in October.
Kim and Kanye have two children: North, three, and Saint, eleven months.
Before axing the rest of his 'Saint Pablo Tour', Kanye made headlines because of several rants he made on stage directed at people including Jay Z, Beyonce and Hillary Clinton. He also attacked Facebook and suggested he would have voted for Donald Trump in the US Presidential Election.
