X Factor star Sam Lavery has defended Honey G and insisted her fellow contestant works "really hard" to keep her place in the competition.

During Sunday night's results show (13 November), Sam became the fifth X Factor hopeful to leave the show. Honey G, meanwhile, secured her place on The X Factor and during an appearance on This Morning, Sam was asked whether it should have been Honey that left the show instead of her.

Defending Honey G, Sam refused to criticise the rapper and told Phillip Schofield: "She works really hard."

Honey G had performed her rendition of 'Stayin' Alive' on The X Factor for its disco themed show and won praise from the judging panel. Nicole Scherzinger told Honey G she was her "guilty pleasure," while Simon Cowell said: "This is where you are a genius, it doesn't matter what the theme is, what the song is, you give 100 percent.

"I've never heard you complain or whinge... you are one of the most unique contestants I've ever had on this show. You are winning."

Honey G has been up against it since her very first audition and has been forced to deal with critics calling her a "novelty act."

Ahead of taking to the stage on Saturday, Honey had slammed her critics - including the likes of Little Mix star Jesy Nelson and Professor Green. Speaking to The Sun, she hit back at Jesy's claims she is an 'actress' and said: "She needs to get her head checked because she doesn't know what she's chatting about."

Pro Green had accused Honey G of 'taking the mickey out of rap music'. Honey G replied: "I don't think he's in a position to be running his mouth off. Back down or get smacked down.

Sam, meanwhile, had found herself in the bottom two alongside Ryan Lawrie.

She was sent home from The X Factor after Sharon Osbourne took the judges' vote to deadlock.

Speaking about her exit from the competition during her This Morning chat, Sam said: "I actually feel really happy. Obviously I'm gutted that I've left the show, but I'm in the final seven, I'm on the tour. I just want to work hard now and I'm so excited to see what I can do... it's a positive thing for me."

"I loved working with Simon, we got on really well... he's really helped me to be confident being me."
