Appearing on The Xtra Factor after Sunday night's results show, Sam gracefully accepted her exit from the show and claimed she has accomplished a lot by reaching the final seven.
She told hosts Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson: "When I look back to my first audition, I am completely different. I've grown, I'm in the final seven, I'm on the tour - what can I actually complain about?"
Sam insisted that she is going to continue singing and was full of compliments about her mentor Simon Cowell.
Revealing that she liked his no-nonsense attitude, Sam said: "Nobody wants someone to say, 'That's perfect, go and do it.' You want someone to say, 'That's good, but this could make it better,' that's really helped me grow and do songs I'd never thought of. I really have learnt so much, it's been unbelievable."
She also took to Twitter to thank Simon for helping her through her X Factor journey. Sam tweeted: "Thank you to @TheXFactor for the amazing opportunity but THANK YOU to @SimonCowell for helping me grow and learn so much! You're incredible!"
Her exit came after Sam performed her rendition of 'I Will Survive' for the competition's disco themed week.
During her time on The X Factor, Sam had controversially been told by Simon to remove her make-up at judges' houses.
His comments divided fans on social media, but defending his decision Simon later said: "I know I got a bit of stick for saying, 'Take off your makeup' and I was being rude. But I did it for a reason as I didn't know who she was and I don't think she knew who she was, she was hiding behind this image."
Sam, meanwhile, was all for it and tweeted at the time: "Taking off my makeup was the best decision ever! I loooooove my new look guys! It's the real me!"
She made reference to the moment on her departure from The X Factor and told Dermot O'Leary: "Just watching that I look like a completely different person from my first audition, but for all the right reasons."
On The Xtra Factor, Rylan teased that now she has left the show he wanted to see Sam back in eyeliner, but she hit back: "No. Stop being a bad influence on me!"
The X Factor continues Saturday 19 November on ITV.
