Former TOWIE star Ferne McCann has hit back at claims she and Vicky Pattison were in 'competition' over landing a role on I'm A Celebrity's new spinoff show: I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp.

It was confirmed in September that Vicky had joined the presenting team, along with Joe Swash, Stacey Solomon and Chris Ramsey on I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp, but reports had claimed at the time that Ferne had gone head-to-head with Vicky to land the role.

Now, Ferne has rubbished the rumours and insisted that the jungle is Vicky's thing.

In an interview with Now magazine, Ferne insisted that she and Vicky had never been in competition with one another.

"It's annoying," Ferne said. "Me and Vicky are totally different, okay? She's one of my best friends. [Vicky is] very witty, intelligent and funny, I'm mre cheeky and flirty and that's why we compliment each other."

Ferne continued: "She won the jungle and it's her thing, so I'm really excited for her."

When asked why she things she and Vicky were pitted as rivals over the I'm A Celeb role, Ferne added: "We were in the jungle at the same time, we're a similar age and both come from a reality TV background... That's it."

Ferne and Vicky struck up a close friendship while both were starring on I'm A Celebrity's last series in 2015. Ferne had finished in third place on the show, while Vicky had been crowned the Queen of the jungle.

Now, Vicky is returning to I'm A Celebrity as part of its presenting team, following the departure of Laura Whitmore, and she told fans she was "buzzing like an old fridge" to have secured her place on the spinoff show.

Vicky said: "Winning the jungle last year was the most incredible experience of my life - I knew it was a moment that was going to take some beating! But I can honestly say joining the I'm A Celeb team as a presenter has almost surpassed it!"

The 28-year-old is currently over in Oz preparing for her first show with Joe, Stacey and Chris as I'm A Celebrity returns with its new series on Sunday (13 November).

Ahead of the show returning to our screens, this series' lineup has now been confirmed and fans will see the likes of Gogglebox's Scarlett Moffatt, Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, Carol Vorderman, Larry Lamb and footballer Wayne Bridge.
