According to The Sun, the former footballer has been in talks with ITV about a trip to the jungle this month.
An insider claimed: "Wayne never really sought fame when he was a footballer so it's surprising he agreed to go in the jungle. But ITV believe they've made a real coup getting him on board as he's never discussed the John Terry scandal before."
In 2010, allegations surfaced that Wayne's ex-girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel had an affair with his England teammate and friend John Terry.
These days, Wayne is happily married to The Saturdays singer Frankie, and they have two sons: Parker, three, and one-year-old Carter.
Neither Wayne, 36, nor Frankie, 27, has commented and, as always, ITV say all rumoured celebrity contestants are just "speculation" until the official cast list is announced.
Frankie, meanwhile, has admitted in the past she'd love to do I'm A Celebrity but having two young children probably rules her out. "It was the one other show that I would maybe do," she said. "But now I've got the boys, I don't think I would because of three weeks not knowing how they are. Maybe a few years ago I would have done it but not now."
I'm A Celebrity returns to ITV on Sunday, 13 November so the cast has to be announced very soon!
Other names linked to the show include Geordie Shore's Sophie Kasaei, TOWIE star Kate Wright, Absolutely Fabulous actress Helen Lederer and Emmerdale's Adam Thomas.
