After Dermot O'Leary set it spinning, the machine landed on 'Fright Night', meaning contestants will sing spooky songs during this Saturday's live performances - two days before Halloween.

Fans took to Twitter in their droves to accuse the Jukebox of being rigged, but Nicole has hit back and insisted it was just a coincidence.

Nicole was quoted in The Sun, saying: "I genuinely think that it's not fixed because I know every week I can't pick my songs until we know what [theme] we're doing – and the producers aren't picking anything as well."

The former Pussycat Doll added: "I think it's meant to be."

Following Sunday night's 'Fright Night' announcement, head judge Simon Cowell spoke about the Jukebox during an appearance on spin-off show The Xtra Factor.

He laughed: "We are going to get slaughtered for that! I'm kind of thinking, 'It will be great to be Fright Night as it's Halloween, but then I'm thinking, don't land on Fright Night, if it does land on that [people will say], 'There is someone in the back stopping it….'' You know what, you lose, you win."

Xtra Factor host Rylan Clark-Neal then asked: "Is there a little man living in the Jukebox?"

"Or a little gerbil spinning around..." added Matt Edmondson.

Simon mused: "There is a little hamster in there."

Ryan Lawrie on X Factor after Divas and Legends Week

Last weekend, Nicole's act Ryan Lawrie found himself in the bottom three again. He was then saved again by the viewers' flash vote.

Speaking afterwards, Nicole admitted: "I like to believe I still have two winners [Ryan and Matt Terry]. I was disappointed he was in the bottom three but he was saved. Thank you so much for those votes. I do feel the pressure is kind of on…

"For me, honestly, last night was the first time I felt Ryan was doing his thing and I had no notes. I couldn't have been more proud of him doing his thing, his way, so I don't know what went wrong."

Can Ryan pull something spooky and spectacular out of the bag this weekend? Only time will tell!

The X Factor continues, ITV1, Saturday 29 October.
