Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan has hit back on Twitter, after a comment she made about the show's producers had been taken out of context.

Frustrated that her words have been misconstrued, the 24-year-old told her followers that she is put off using social media as she has to "constantly watch" what she says "out of fear it's taken too literally."

Holly appeared to be catching up on the last series of Ibiza Weekender and took to Twitter to sympathise with the show's star Ellie Young.

Ellie was involved in a bit of a love triangle with Deano Baily and Imogen Townley and tweeting her thoughts, Holly said: "Ibiza weekender... When you know the producers have told Ellie to go in the girls room and chat to mug her off even more in the edit #ihatetv."

One fan then responded: "@HollyGShore you mean reality TV isn't real?! Shocking reveal. Talk about biting off the hand that feeds you! You've made ££ from reality TV."

Their comment prompted Holly to respond. Reflecting on her own experience, she said: "I'm allowed to have empathy for a situation I've been in. It's not nice to watch."

She then added: "P.s they barely feed us once a day if we beg."

Now, Holly has been forced to clarify that her comment had been a joke.

After seeing reports surface based on her tweet, Holly hit back: "Twitter is a place where you can have fun and joke but when you do the press grab hold of it and turn it into something it's not... Constantly having to watch what I say out of fear it's taken too literally and made a story [of]. That's not how it should be!!"

Holly's latest tweets come after claims she has now quit Geordie Shore.

She has been starring on the show since it first aired in 2011, but sources have claimed she has now decided to leave, following in the footsteps of her BFF Charlotte Crosby. Charlotte announced her exit in June.

Holly is yet to respond to rumours she is no longer a part of the cast, and when contacted by Reveal a spokesperson for MTV declined to comment.

The speculation does come, though, after Holly has publicly spoken about her plans to move on from Geordie Shore. She hinted recently that she won't be heading back into the house in a few weeks time to film for series fourteen of the show.

In an interview with Star magazine, Holly said: "To clarify, I'm in series 13, I always have been. I've never changed my mind and begged to come back. However, big things happen at the end of series 13 and whether I'll be in series 14 is another matter."
