So is there *really* going to be a Love Island Christmas special episode? Brace yourselves, people... ITV has denied there is any truth in the rumours.

We were SO excited by the thought of having a festive themed catch up with our Love Island favourites, but turns out that was all just speculation, and though the stars from the show may have dropped hints, ITV actually had no plans for them all to reunite.

In fact, a spokesperson for ITV told Reveal: "There are no plans for a Love Island Christmas Special but we will soon begin casting ahead of another series of the show which will broadcast in 2017."

At least we have another series to look forward to, right?

ITV's confirmation comes after Olivia Buckland recently claimed the Love Island Christmas special was not actually a thing.

She had spoken over to our friends at Cosmopoltian.co.uk and said: "They've said that it is likely to not be happening... It's mainly because Love Island is all about summer love and it doesn't really translate into the winter period. So I don't think it would've worked.

"[And] they're concentrating on next year's series to make it amazing again."

The rumour mill had gone into overdrive after a source told The Sun that the Christmas ep was currently in pre-production. They claimed: "The whole project is currently in pre-production, but there's a real buzz around the idea. It's just a case of working out the logistics with schedules and locations."

Malin Andersson then suggested a reunion of some sort was on the cards, as she tweeted, "And singles... cough cough," in response to a tweet suggesting our Love Island couples will be back on our screens. Malin also asked her followers who was excited for the Christmas ep.

Sob.

Love Island's second series wrapped up in July and viewers saw Nathan Massey and Cara de la Hoyde crowned the winners. They are still together now and have moved in with one another in Essex. They're not the only couple still going strong from the show as Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen are still dating, as are Emma-Jane Woodhams and Terry Walsh, Sophie Gradon and Tom Powell, Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott and Rachel Fenton and Rykard Jenkins.
