Fans were left stunned when the couple called it quits off screen shortly after the series 18 finale, especially as they'd only just reconciled after an eight-month break.
Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Danielle said: "I'm really good me. Me and James have had an on off relationship for the last three years and I think we've probably bored the nation with us getting back together, are they on or off!
"But we are good. We're in a good place. I think sometimes it's best to just let go. We did try, we tried our best to make it work."
Danielle added she thinks that her situation with Lockie is part of what made the show so easy to for people to relate to, even 19 series down the line.
"I think the reason the show is doing so well five years on is that it's so relatable," she said. "I get so many people on social media telling me, 'I'm in the same position with my boyfriend, I keep going back, I want it to work, I go home and have a cup of tea with my mum and talk about it.' I think you need that kind of support.
Danielle also said she's going to look for her next boyfriend outside Essex, especially after the recent bombshell that Pete Wicks had been texting his ex behind girlfriend Megan McKenna's back.
"I'm now looking at branching outside Essex, anyone outside the Essex area give me a call!" she joked.
