The former Coronation Street actress, 29, won praise from critics and viewers for her portrayal of the army medic caught up in the Somali and Kenya conflict while on a humanitarian mission.
BBC confirmed the exciting news on Wednesday evening (5 October), just after the series finale episode aired. Which we won't spoil here in case you haven't seen it yet!
In a brief statement, the corporation said: "We're delighted to announce that #OurGirl will return to @BBCOne for a third series, starring @michkeegan as Georgie Lane."
No details of what Georgie will be doing this time around have been released, or whether the series will take over directly where the finale ended.
Needless to say, Michelle is thrilled!
After the finale, she told fans: "Well, that's an official wrap. One of the most incredible experiences of my life.
"Thank you so much for your amazing support. I feel so emotional right now. Thank you also to the amazing people I was lucky enough to work with on this special project. Here's to series 3!!!"
Our Girl debuted as a one-off episode starring EastEnders actress Lacey Turner as Molly Dawes, a young woman who chose to join the British Army after thinking her life was going nowhere. That led to a full series of five episodes the following year, focusing on Molly's time in Afghanistan.
Lacey then left the show, with Michelle coming on board for series two.
