The 20-year-old singer, who is being mentored by Simon Cowell, explained to The Sun that she was 13 years old when the incident happened, saying she'd been stopped for a search and felt a female should have been searching her not a male.
Gifty recalled: "I got arrested when I was 13 for hitting a police officer. It was quite funny. They were doing stop and search and I felt a female officer should search me.
"I felt he was touching me inappropriately so I kicked him in the balls and got arrested. I didn't go to court but I had a criminal record. It got taken off me when I was 15."
Gifty is through to X Factor live shows after wowing Simon Cowell and his guest judges Mel B and Emma Bunton at Judges' Houses in Malibu over the weekend. She performed The Kungs' 'This Girl' to sail through to the next round.
"That was a different side of you and that makes you different and interesting. That was brilliant," said Simon, while Emma said she wanted to get up and dance with Gifty.
"I just wanted to do something that made me stand out and I think I did it," said Gifty.
