The aspiring popstars had been dating before the show but their romance was only revealed when they both made it past their first auditions.
Now they've both scored places in the live shows, which means they'll be in direct competition with each other every week.
Speaking to The Sun, however, Ryan said the couple had spoken about the possibility that one of them may find their X Factor experience being cut short before the other, and says they are mature enough to handle it.
"We know there could be tough times ahead but I think we can work through them," he said. "We've talked about how we'll deal with it if one of us leaves, but we're super supportive of each other."
The live shows start this weekend but for now, all the X Factor finalists are settling into life in the luxury contestants' mansion in London.
It does mean Ryan and Emily's relationship has essentially been "fast-forwarded" as technically they're now living together!
"It's our first time living together so it's definitely fast-forwarded our relationship," added Ryan. "I'm happy we'll go through the experience together and help each other through any tough moments.
"We're not allowed to share a room, though!"
Ryan was the wildcard pick for Nicole Scherzinger's boys category. He booked his place in the live shows after he impressed her and guest judge Calvin Harris during the boys' judges' houses in the South of France on Sunday night.
After he got through to live shows, Emily tweeted: "I am the proudest girlfriend in the universe. We are actually in the live shows together. 'Are you serious?!' I love you."
Emily got through to live shows on Saturday night after wowing Simon Cowell and his guest judges Emma Bunton and Mel B in Malibu.
Ryan tweeted afterwards: "OMFG you have done it! My girl has made it to live shows! I am the proudest boyfriend in the universe. I love you."
Meanwhile, on Sunday night's Xtra Factor, head judge Simon was asked for his thoughts on the young couple's romance.
"I think it's a good thing," he said. "It's happened on the show before. I think it makes it more interesting. When one of them goes, it's always interesting to see what happens on a night like that, when they're in competition with each other."
The live shows start this Saturday on ITV and we already know Emily will be singing 'Toxic' by Britney Spears and Ryan is tackling 'Perfect' by One Direction. When asked on Xtra Factor if he thought about Emily while singing it, Ryan laughed: "Yeah, why not?!"
