James Corden has defended Kim Kardashian against negative comments that have been posted about her online, following news she was held at a gunpoint during a robbery in Paris.

Reports revealed that Kim had been held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room by up to five men dressed as police officers. Few details are known about the incident, but a rep for Kim did confirm that the reality star is "badly shaken, but physically unharmed."

She is now believed to have left Paris and has received plenty of support from fans, sending her their well wishes. However, there have also been a series of negative comments directed at Kim online, prompting The Late Late Show host James to speak out and defend Kim.

After seeing some users making light of the situation, James took to Twitter and said: "People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she's a mother, a daughter, a wife, a friend. Be nice or shut up."

Many agreed with the 38-year-old. One user commented in response: "Couldn't agree more." While another added: "@JKCorden @KimKardashian And even if she were none of those things, she is a human being. Thanks for standing up for humanity, James."

Kim had been in Paris to attend Fashion Week when the robbery took place on Sunday night (2 October). A spokesperson for Kim said in a statement: "Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening by two armed masked men dressed as police officers. She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."

Later reports suggested that as many as five men may have been involved.

Parisian police are now investigating, but no further details have been given. Sources, meanwhile, have claimed millions of pounds worth of jewellery had been taken.

Kim's husband, Kanye West, had been performing in New York at the Meadows Festival when the incident took place. He stopped his show mid-way and told the crowd there had been a "family emergency" and he needed to leave. Event organisers later added: "Due to a family emergency, Kanye West was forced to end his performance towards the end of his set. We appreciate the great show he put on for fans to close the inaugural Meadows Festival. Our thoughts are with West and his family."

It's thought that Kim and Kanye's children, daughter North, three and son Saint, nine months, were not with Kim when the incident unfolded.
