Jennifer Aniston's husband Justin Theroux and close friend Courteney Cox have shared their thoughts on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's shock split after being quizzed by reporters this week.

The showbiz world was left stunned last week when Angelina, 41, filed for divorce from Brad, 52, after two years of marriage and a relationship lasting more than a decade.

They have six children between the ages of eight and 15 years old.

It led to an outpouring of Jennifer Aniston memes on social media, depicting the actress happy or satisfied that Brangelina was no more, given the rumours their relationship started on the set of when Brad was still married to Jennifer.

But ever classy, Jennifer has not responded.

Her husband Justin Theroux, however, was put on the spot when asked for his thoughts during an interview with Business Insider. He replied: "As a child of divorce, all I can say is that's terrible news for those children, and that's all you can really say.

"It's boring to sort of comment on anything else. People are having a bad time — that's horrible."

He also branded Jennifer's name being dragged into it as "nonsense", saying: "It's shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world."

Meanwhile, Jennifer's former Friends co-star and close friend Courteney Cox was also asked about Brangelina's divorce while attending a luncheon in LA this week.

She defended Jennifer, telling Entertainment Weekly it was unfair Jen's name had been brought into it. "I feel like we're exacerbating it by even talking about it. It's not about her."

Courteney and Jen have been close since Friends.

Jennifer and Brad split in 2005. He then began dating Angelina, which led to an engagement and wedding in 2014. They are parents to Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, eight.

Their relationship was mired in controversy from the start because of rumours Brad and Angelina fell for each other while filming Mr and Mrs Smith while Brad and Jen were still married. Angelina fuelled that speculation when she later remarked how much she'd loved working with Brad every day and how the Jolie-Pitt kids would be able to watch the movie where their parents fell in love.

Jennifer responded via a Vogue interview in which she said: "There was stuff printed there that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss. That stuff about how she couldn't wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool."

But that's all in the past for Jennifer who has been happily married to Justin since last year and recently described him as the "best thing" to have happened to her.
