The 52-year-old is set to make an appearance at the screening later today (28 September), but has released a statement to confirm his absence. Brad explained that he wanted to focus on his current 'family situation' and doesn't want to take any attention away from the film itself.
In a statement to Us Weekly, he said: "I'm very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I'm currently focused on my family situation and don't want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see."
Brad's decision to skip the screening comes after Angelina's attorney confirmed she is set to divorce the actor. They revealed that she was the one to initiate proceedings and Angelina's decision to end her marriage with Brad has been based on the "health of the family."
Angelina, 41, and Brad are parents to six children: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, eight. They had been together for twelve years and married two years ago in August 2014.
Following news of their split surfacing, Brad released a statement to say he was "saddened" and his main priority going forward is his children. He said: "I am very saddened... but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Angelina has been divorced twice previously, following marriages to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Brad was previously married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. He and Jen were still married when Brad initially met Angelina on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith.
Brad later revealed he "fell in love" with Angelina on set.
Following their split, Brad has found himself at the centre of unconfirmed allegations he had been violent towards his son Maddox on a private jet.
While the LAPD ruled out an investigation into the claims, the FBI released a statement to say they were evaluating whether an investigation will be pursued. It read: "In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued."
However, new reports have suggested Brad could now be cleared of such allegations, as video footage has emerged of the rumoured incident. A source claiming to have seen the footage told Us Weekly that Brad can be seen shouting, but there is no evidence of any form of physical violence.
Another source claimed to The Sun that, although a row did break out between Brad and Maddox, the whole thing has been 'blown out of proportion.'
Netiher Angelina or Brad have commented on the allegations.
