Pregnant Alex Jones admits falling pregnant was "stressful" after delving into fertility issues

Pregnant Alex Jones has admitted that falling pregnant was slightly "stressful", after learning that she had been quite naive about fertility and age.

She is currently expecting her first child, but prior to falling pregnant, Alex had filmed a documentary about fertility, after learning her mother had gone through the menopause very early on - which meant she may have had less time than she thought to conceive.

During an appearance on This Morning, Alex admitted filming (and being 38 at the time) was "stressful" and also "terrifying" as she had hoped to start a family herself with husband Charlie Thomson.

She told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby "I, like many people quite naive, was aware that age impacts fertility, but you don't realise to what extent until you start looking into it. I've always known I wanted a family."

Alex recalled how her mum had told her she went through the menopause early on (44 years old), and the TV presenter was left thinking she only had six years to fall pregnant.

"Mum has never put any pressure on us to have children," Alex said. "But she probably thought, 'She doesn't need to know about it until she's thinking about [children] or if she thinks about it.' But I was shocked, it's incredibly young."

Alex, however, is now expecting and admitted that she "hadn't planned" to start a family in her late thirties. She added: "Nobody leaves it late on purpose. It's all about timing, when you meet your partner, when there's a gap in your career. For me, family was always the number one priority, but I didn't meet my husband until later on and we wanted to get married first."

"Faced with what mum said and having tests to see how inside was looking, it was quite stressful," Alex admitted.

She revealed that she decided to film The Truth About Fertility in order to raise awareness of how fertility can be affected as women get older.

Following her appearance on This Morning, Alex tweeted: "Thanks for your lovely messages and thanks to @thismorning for having me. I hope it will bring an important issue out in the open #fertility."

Alex first announced she is pregnant earlier this month,
saying at the time she and husband Charlie "feel so lucky" to be becoming parents.

Their baby joy comes after nine months after Alex and Charlie tied the knot on New Year's Eve last year in Cardiff.
