The Geordie Shore co-stars' lengthy on-off romance came to an end earlier this year, after Gaz filmed Ex On The Beach in Thailand and slept with Jem Lucy on the first night. He then enjoyed a three-way kiss in bed with Charlotte Dawson and Olivia Walsh.
Then, Charlotte revealed in an emotional interview that while Gaz had been filming EOTB she had been undergoing an emergency operation after doctors discovered an ectopic pregnancy. She found out about Jem and the other women while she was recovering back home in England.
Appearing on ITV's This Morning on Thursday (1 September), Gaz said he held his hands up and admitted he had been the one who messed things up with Charlotte and if he hadn't slept with Jem that first night, perhaps he and Char would still be together.
"It was me who messed up, I won't lie about that," he said. "We were kind of seeing each other again [before I went on EOTB]. I was like, look it will be make or break. Me being me went in there the first night, got drunk and got with someone. I knew straight away I'd messed things up with Charlotte. [Being drunk] is not an excuse at all. If I hadn't have done that, I would have come back and we'd probably have been fine."
Gaz added that he and Charlotte don't really talk right now and admitted it took Charlotte quitting Geordie Shore for them both to move on from their romance.
"We had a crazy five years and there was a lot of pressure on our relationship," he explained. "If there was a picture, it would become, 'Are they getting married? Are they together?' It would have taken one of us to leave Geordie Shore before we could both move on with our lives."
They're both now venturing back into the dating world: Charlotte has been meeting men while filming the E4 series Celebs Go Dating, while Gaz has just started dating model Emma McVey, who previously went out with TOWIE star Mario Falcone.
"I think now, we're eventually both moving on to the next chapters of our live," said Gaz. "She's dating people and I'm happy for her. I don't have a bad word to say about her."
"I have always got a place for Charlotte in my life and won't say a bad word about her," he continued. "I hope one day we can be friends, laugh about it, look back. Some of my funniest times on Geordie Shore have been with that girl. I'm happy for her and I hope the dating thing goes well. I want her to find a nice lad; she deserves a nice lad."
