TOWIE star Pete announced his sad news on Tuesday (30 August), telling his fans his pooch, which had starred on the ITVBe reality show, was his "best friend".
Pete posted a picture of himself cuddling Ernest on Instagram, adding: "Words can't describe how heartbroken I am to have suddenly lost one of the best things to have ever come in to my life.
"My boy Ernest wasn't just a dog to me, he was my best friend. Things will never be the same. I'm thankful to him for teaching me a lot about myself and everything about unconditional love. He will always be in my heart. R.I.P Ernest #Wolfpack."
Meanwhile, Pete's girlfriend Megan McKenna has also shared her own photograph of herself holding Ernest, adding: "Rest in peace little man, You'll be missed, Ernest."
Ernest's sudden death is the third tragedy of its kind to rock the TOWIE cast this summer.
In July, Bobby Norris revealed that his dog Beau had died after being attacked by a larger dog during a walk in the park.
Just weeks later, Tommy Mallet confirmed that his beloved pooch Buster had passed away following a short illness.
