Alex Bowen has responded to Gaz Beadle's claims that Love Island is a "carbon copy" of Geordie Shore and Ex On The Beach, insisting: "Gaz's opinion doesn't matter to me."

Gaz had hit out at Love Island and the couples that got together on the show's second series, accusing the show of being a copy of MTV's reality shows and claiming the relationships made on Love Island are fake.

Alex's girlfriend Olivia Buckland had hit back at Gaz at the time, but he remained relatively quiet when it came to Gaz's comments. Until now, that is.

Catching up with Reveal, while discussing his move down to Essex to live with Olivia, Alex shared his thoughts on Geordie Shore star Gaz.

He exclusively told us he has met Gaz before, but he wasn't bothered by what he had to say about Love Island. Alex explained: "He's got his opinion on the show - he said it's a carbon copy of Geordie Shore, but on that show and Ex On The Beach all they do is get pissed."

Insisting that Love Island is very different, Alex added: "Fair play, I used to watch Geordie Shore and I'm not going to say anything bad because I like it, but in Love Island we got two drinks a night, so we couldn't get drunk."

"It's about couples getting together, no fights," Alex said. "Ex On The Beach is about going there to get into a scrap and to get with a bird."

Alex insisted that he "doesn't have a problem" with Gaz, but he does think his comments about Love Island are unfair.

He continued: "I wasn't really bothered, but he shouldn't be saying things about people that are trying to do well for themselves because he was at that stage before.

"For him to say something to us, just because he's been in reality TV for years, isn't fair. You can't knock people for trying to make something of their lives and for being in a happy relationship. His opinion doesn't matter to me. I couldn't care less what he's got to say."

Gaz had initially told The Sun: "All it is is just a carbon copy of Geordie Shore and Ex On The Beach. ITV know they've got to get young, good-looking people in to have sex, get drunk, argue with each other and fight - and that's what we've been doing on Geordie Shore for five years."

"Let them do what they want, they'll only be famous for three months. They get papped together and they're like, 'We're going so well.' Everyone else is like, 'No you aren't.' They've got this delusional thought that if they stay together they'll do well, but they won't."

His comments saw Olivia bite back via Twitter, accusing Gaz of being "narrow-minded", she then suggested that Gary had only hit out at Love Island to try and "stay in the limelight." Olivia also claimed that Gaz had bad-mouthed the couples from the show because his relationship with Charlotte Crosby never worked out.

Gaz responded by accusing Olivia of 'using his name to gain publicity.' She told us that was not the case, and joked that she didn't even know who Gaz was.

"Who is he? Who is Gaz? Tell me!" She said. "I don't even watch Ex On The Beach, Geordie Shore or anything that he's in so [laughing uncontrollably] I don't understand why he is saying things like that. It's a very strange thing to say."
