Love Island star Katie Salmon has spoken out in defence of CBB's Stephen Bear, insisting he is a "nice guy."

Bear has had fans divided over his CBB appearance, thanks to his wind up ways and publicly moving on from ex-girlfriend Lillie Lexie Gregg with Chloe Khan.

He had dumped Lillie onscreen, before pursuing a physical romance with Chloe and told his housemates he doesn't think Lillie is 'the one' for him anymore. However, Katie has now hit back at Bear's critics and claimed he does "come from a good place."

She revealed to Daily Star that she has previously dated Bear and insisted he is a "nice guy."

She said: "I've been on a date with him, which is the reason I know his family, so I know he comes from a good place, he looked after me, he was a gentleman. He was really sweet and we still stayed friends, so he doesn't take you out and just go, 'Bye.'"

"He's a nice guy," she continued. "And I do think he's got a nice heart."

While Katie admitted she wouldn't have pursued anything with Bear, if she was in Chloe's shoes, she can understand why the former X Factor star had chosen to.

"[Chloe] probably just thought, 'Oh I like him,' and trust me, Bear will give her a lot of attention... He will be making her feel like a princess and so she'll be buying it... It's not her that's in the wrong, Bear is the one that had a girlfriend."

Katie's comments come after viewers recently saw Lillie enter the house to confront Bear over his actions. She told him he had left her "humiliated" and said: "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, I just needed to see you… it's so surreal… I was supporting you 100 per cent. The embarrassment and humiliation I've had… this is all one big game to you, it is a joke at my expense."

Bear remained silent and shrugged his shoulders at Lillie.

He did, however, break down in tears once Lillie had left the house.

Reacting to seeing her in the house, Bear later told Big Brother in the Diary Room: "In the long run, she would've got hurt a lot more. I had to break away from her, it's the hardest thing I had to do. I would've married her."

"I think about her every day but I can't be with her," he claimed. "It's not fair on her. I was adamant I wouldn't get with anyone else."

Bear also admitted that he would "love" to see Chloe again, while Chloe reacted to Lillie's appearance on the show and has said she is "glad" Bear's ex went in to see him.

Speaking on BOTS, she told host Rylan Neal-Clark: "To be honest, I thought Bear would cry his eyes out when she walked in. I'm surprised he didn't because people don't know he's actually very sensitive and sweet as well. It's crazy to watch her going in there. I'm kind of glad she did. I think it needed saying."

Chloe had previously insisted via Twitter that she had never intended to hurt Lillie by getting together with Bear.

Lillie, meanwhile, has told fans she has now got "closure" from their split, after getting to see Bear and tell him how she felt.

CBB continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
