Dermot O'Leary has teased the all new series of The X Factor, promising fans that they will see a different side to Simon Cowell this time around.

The new series of the show is set to return to our screens next month, along with a slew of familiar faces. Dermot is back presenting The X Factor, replacing Caroline Flack and Olly Murs from last year, while Simon will be joined by returning judges Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh on the judging panel.

But how have the changes to the lineup affected the show?

Giving fans a bit of insight into the new series, Dermot revealed how he has found filming so far and said: "The overriding feeling this year is that it has been very warm and very fun.

"Most people have said, 'Let's try and get back to our basics,' which means this show is a celebration of Great British eccentrics and then when we get to the end in the studio, we have eight great voices and three or four characters and the public decide. It's that simple."

The X Factor auditions kicked off back in June and Dermot revealed that the show is currently filming its Judges' Houses stage. Sharing his thoughts on the returning panel, Dermot said the judges are currently getting on "very well" with each other.

"Sharon being back adds a little bit of oomph to Louis and he stands up to Simon a little bit more," Dermot teased. "Nicole is brilliant because she is so beautiful and intelligent, and really funny."

He added: "It doesn't feel cruel [this year]. I think Simon being a dad might have something to do with that, he reacts to a no in a completely different way than I've ever seen."

Anyone else now a little intrigued?!

Dermot also appeared to confirm the return date for The X Factor and told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford it will air on the last weekend of August. ITV are yet to confirm the official return date.

The show's spinoff The Xtra Factor will also return and this year, Rylan Clark-Neal has been confirmed as host alongside Matt Edmondson.

Rylan was initially a contestant on The X Factor back in 2012. Addressing his addition to the show, he said: "I'm very honoured and over the moon to say after four years of being away I'm going back to the Xtra Factor to host that alongside Matt Edmondson. We get on so well and are literally over the moon."
