Geordie Shore's Marnie Simpson hits out at Love Island: "They don't get as much grief"

Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson has said she doesn't think the Love Island cast get as much grief as her and her co-stars for having sex on TV.

The Geordie Shore cast have received criticism in the past for doing the deed on TV and Marnie now believes that there is a double standard when it comes to ITV2 dating show Love Island.

She thinks that the steamy scenes aired on the show have been "more explicit" than what's shown on Geordie Shore, but the stars haven't received as much flack for it.

After seeing this year's third place finalists Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott appear on This Morning, following Love Island wrapping another series, Marnie took to her weekly column for Star magazine to vent her frustration.

She explained: "It's unfair that the Love Island cast is invited on daytime TV shows after having sex on TV, while Geordie Shore gets slated."

"They don't get as much grief as we do and their sex scenes are more explicit," she claimed. "I don't see the problem with having sex on TV. It's what we do in real life and it's reality TV."

While bedroom antics are a dead cert on Geordie Shore, Love Island fans saw plenty of action this time round. From Zara controversially sleeping with Alex Bowen and losing her Miss GB title, to Rykard Jenkins and Olivia Buckland getting intimate behind Rachel Fenton's back in the bed next to her.

Emma-Jane Woodhams and Terry Walsh caused a stir when they chose to have sex in full view of their islanders, choosing not to hide under the duvets as the islanders usually do. Emma, who had vowed not to have sex on TV, thought that if she and Terry hooked up on top of the duvet covers, and not under them, it wouldn't be aired.

Viewers still saw the pair and ITV were forced to respond to claims the scenes had been "too explicit". They told BBC Newsbeat: "Contrary to reports, editorially the scenes in question are inexplicit, and the focus is rather on the other islanders' reactions."

Like Marnie, Scotty T seemed to share a similar opinion when Zara appeared on Lorraine to discuss being 'de-throned' of her Miss GB title.

He had tweeted at the time: "So on Geordie Shore.. When the cast first had sex on TV it was demonised. But do it on ITV2 and you get invited onto Lorraine. Seems legit."

He crudely added in response to Zara's interview: "Couldn't give a f**k what anyone does on TV. I had my a*se licked on TV. But where is my Lorraine interview?"

Despite Marnie and Scott's comments, though, we have seen some of our Geordie faves on daytime tele. Charlotte Crosby has often appeared on This Morning, along with Vicky Pattison who has even been seen hosting the showbiz segment on the show from time to time.

She is now a regular panellist on Loose Women.
