Viewers of the ITV2 show saw Emma enter the villa as Tom's ex during the second series, while he was dating fellow islander Sophie.
Many thought Emma and Sophie would clash in the villa, but they actually formed a fast friendship until a falling out when Sophie accused Emma of having a game plan to wreck Tom's villa experience.
Emma denied that.
Tom and Sophie went through a rocky patch and briefly split before reuniting, but Tom was then eliminated from the villa leaving Sophie behind. A few days later, she kissed islander Katie Salmon and coupled with her, before doing a U-Turn and quitting the show to salvage her romance with Tom.
Speaking to us, Emma, 19, said: "I think a lot of people thought their relationship was failing because Tom was too possessive but I think Sophie was maybe the dark horse there who was playing a very strong game for quite a while with Tom's emotions.
"Obviously, being an ex of Tom's, I know that although he came be very soppy and he has a big heart, he's not a mug and he will not let her walk all over him too long. But obviously if she wants her and Tom's relationship to work then she needs to think about the way she's behaving."
When asked if she felt sorry for Tom, Emma replied: "I do, in a way. Obviously, I feel mostly bad that I came in and enjoyed Love Island as my own experience and obviously things were going a bit wrong for him and Sophie before I got there, and then it went very wrong when they got voted as the weakest couple and, unfortunately, Tom got dumped from the island.
"But he's a strong guy, and he has stuff to go home to and he's got a good family and I'm sure he's going to have job offers and stuff. He'll be alright, he'll be fine.
As for her thoughts on Sophie, Emma simply said: "Obviously I did expect that Sophie would have a lot to say about me. I haven't got anything negative to say about Sophie but, at the same time, we will not be friends. I wish her all the best with her life and I just really want to draw a line under anything that concerns me, Sophie or Tom."
Love Island ended on Monday night (11 July) with Cara de la Hoyde and Nathan Massey winning the £50,000 prize.
The final standings were:
1. Cara and Nathan
2. Olivia and Alex
3. Kady and Scott
4. Katie and Adam
