Tom and Sophie had been official before he was eliminated last week but, after he left, Sophie formed a bond with newcomer Katie, which led to a kiss over champagne and them deciding to couple up during Monday's recoupling.
But, in scenes to air tonight, Sophie admits she's made a mistake in coupling with Katie, as she loves Tom and doesn't want him to be hurt. She even threatens to leave to be with Tom before deciding to stay and complete the experience.
Perhaps that's why Tom has said he's still together with Sophie.
Speaking to The Mirror, the fitness trainer said he wouldn't do anything or make any decisions until he spoke to Sophie.
"As far as I know me and Sophie are still together. I know it's a long shot - as she said she was a 'lone wolf' and all that s**t and she's kissed another bird - but I'm not a bad guy so I don't want to be made out to be the bad guy," he said.
"Until she is out and I can say 'you cheated on me' or whatever, we're together."
That's certainly a different attitude to what we saw on Sunday night, when Tom tweeted "done" in response to Katie and Sophie's kiss.
Since then, however, Sophie has made it clear she has deep feelings for Tom, even saying she also said "I love you" when he left, although only Tom's L-bomb was aired.
In scenes tonight, when she threatens to quit, she says: "I need to be real and I miss Tom. Every day I've missed him… I cannot do this, it's just too much of a mind-f***. It's not worth it. It's not worth losing Tom over. I can't lose Tom, I can't."
Her worry comes after the islanders take part in a challenge where Twitter messages from the public are read. One compares Sophie to Terry Walsh, who slept with Emma-Jane Woodham just a week after girlfriend Malin Andersson was eliminated.
Ultimately, Sophie decides not to leave the villa tonight, but does cool things off with Katie, saying her feelings for Tom are too deep for anyone else to get in the way.
Love Island airs 9pm on ITV2.
