Zara Holland has said she'd return to Love Island to defend friend Sophie Gradon following last night's explosive row.

Viewers saw Sophie arguing with Emma-Jane Woodham and Terry Walsh after Sophie's comment that Emma's playing a game made its way around the islanders.

Reacting via Twitter, Zara said: "That was not nice to watch... I want to go back in and stick up for my Sophie!!! #LoveIsland."

The pair - both former Miss Great Britain - had been good friends in the house, with Sophie delivering a passionate speech in defence of Zara when the island learned Zara had lost her Miss GB crown for sleeping with Alex Bowen.

Zara left two days later to care for her sick mother back home in the UK.

Last night, Sophie had been grieving the elimination of boyfriend Tom Powell when Tom's ex, Emma, came storming over to ask Sophie to explain why she thought Emma had a game plan.

Initially Sophie told Emma they'd talk in private at another time, but then Terry got involved, saying Sophie clearly had an issue with both of them.

Sophie said that, yes, she thought Emma had a game plan and that her arrival at the villa could have been to mess with Tom. She also said her opinion of Emma had changed after Emma had sex with Terry after vowing not to have sex on TV. Sophie suggested Emma had only done it after seeing Sophie and Tom cuddling up in the next bed.

It all got very heated and ended with Sophie storming off while Emma and Terry remained in the smoking area. Fans were quick to react on Twitter with many saying Emma and Terry had gone for Sophie when she was at her most vulnerable following Tom's exit.

Meanwhile, if Zara wanted to return to the villa then she could! She wasn't eliminated from the show, instead leaving after her mother fell ill. So producers said the door was open for her to return.

When we spoke with her last week, Zara said she had no "immediate plans" to go back to the villa, but will Sophie and Emma's row change that? Hmmm…

Love Island airs 9pm on ITV2.
