And that's not the only major change this time round. The Xtra Factor will also be going LIVE.

The news was announced by ITV via Twitter, with The X Factor's official account sharing a video of Matt backstage at auditions.

In the clip, he tells fans: "Hello I'm Matt Edmondson and I'm working on The Xtra Factor this year, and I've got some pretty exciting news. This year, for the first year ever, the Xtra Factor is going live on ITV2 from the first show.

"From the beginning of the series, we will be live - it's a bit terrifying - on ITV2 after every single episode. That means when you watch the show, I'll be watching the show then we can get together afterwards and have a big chat about it.

"As well as that we've got lots of exclusive backstage auditions, some stuff that happens here that you won't usually see, we'll have some famous faces and, of course, we'll be chatting to the judges."

Matt also shared the video to his own Twitter account, adding alongside it: "So, this is happening."

Matt will replace last year's hosts of the show Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom.

The X Factor and The Xtra Factor are due to return to our screens later this year, and filming has already got underway.

Auditions kicked off earlier this month in Leicester where fans got to see this year's new judges (or should we say returning), Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh step out for the first time together and join Simon Cowell.

Nicole, Sharon and Louis have all had history on The X Factor, with Louis returning to the panel after a one year hiatus last year. Speaking about his comeback, the Irish music mogul has said: "He'd say otherwise but I knew Simon missed me last year!

"I'm delighted to be back on the panel especially beside my two favourite female judges Sharon and Nicole, and I'm looking forward to taking them all back to Dublin this year when we head there for auditions."

He, Nicole and Sharon have replaced Nick Grimshaw, Rita Ora and Cheryl, as all three decided to quit last year.

Dermot O'Leary will also return as host.
