Love Island star Rykard Jenkins has claimed quitting the dating show for his co-star Rachel Fenton has "honestly paid off."

Days after coupling up together on Love Island, Rykard and Rachel's time together was cut short. Fans will remember that the islanders were forced to pick one person from each couple in the bottom two of the public vote to leave the island.

Rachel was chosen along with Daniel Lukakis, as the islanders wanted to keep Zara Holland and Rykard in the villa. Rykard, however, decided to leave with Rachel, explaining at the time he didn't want to continue on Love Island without her.

Now, Rachel and Rykard are back home again in the UK and their recent activity on social media has proved they are still giving their romance a go - despite that major hiccup!

Caroline Flack had revealed to Rachel on her exit that Rykard had slept with Olivia Buckland a day after he and Rachel enjoyed an overnight date together in the hideaway. Rachel had said she felt "betrayed" by Rykard, but after giving him the chance to explain his actions, she decided to give him another chance.

Rykard insisted if he could go back, he wouldn't have hooked up with Olivia and his decision to leave the show proved to Rachel how much he cares about her.

Now, Rykard has told fans he is a "lucky boy." He shared a screenshot of himself and Rachel on Love Island, moments before their exit, and admitted leaving on her behalf has "paid off" for him.

Rykard gushed: "A good woman is so hard to come by. Honestly Rachel has so much class, dignity & inner beauty. Just knowing someone like that is giving you the time of day is an honour."

He added: "I couldn't see her upset or walk out of my life for a "GameShow" so I went with my heart & its honestly paid off. #LuckyBoy."

Rykard and Rachel have been inundated with support following their Love Island exit, with Love Island alumni Cally Jane Beech admitting she was "gutted" to see them go.

After seeing Rykard's heartfelt Instagram about his co-star, Cally tweeted: "This makes me happy. I want a real relationship and couple to win this year, gutted they've gone."

Love Island airs nightly on ITV2.
