Star Trek's Anton Yelchin dies at 27: celebrities pay tribute

Thousands of tributes have been pouring in around the world for Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, who has died at the age of 27.

The Russian-born actor – who played Chekov in the sci-fi franchise – was killed by his own car, when it rolled down the driveway of his Los Angeles home and pinned him against a gate.

Police have said Anton's body was discovered by a friend, after he missed a planned rehearsal. His rep later confirmed his passing, saying: "Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning. His family requests you respect their privacy at this time."

His Star Trek co-stars, including Chris Evans, have been among the celebrities leading global tributes, following the tragic news on Sunday evening (19 June):
