Duncan, who shot to fame in boyband Blue, had only just started filming scenes for his upcoming debut on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, but yesterday, his rep confirmed via Twitter that he is in hospital, after having "emergency surgery."
They reassured fans that Duncan is doing well following his surgery, tweeting last night: "Confirming @MrDuncanJames has had emergency surgery today in London & is doing fine at this time."
A source had told The Mirror it was needed to treat a slipped disc and damaged nerve.
"Duncan slipped a disc and damaged a nerve. It was pretty bad," the source said. "He had a small section of the disc removed to ease pressure on the spine. He has theatre commitments with Priscilla that are now in jeopardy. And he could have to delay his start date for Hollyoaks if he doesn't make a speedy recovery."
Duncan's rep has now confirmed his surgery was to treat a prolapsed herniated disc in his back and he is now "recovering well."
They released a statement which read: "Yesterday afternoon Duncan James was admitted to the Charing Cross Hospital suffering from a prolapsed herniated disc in his back. His admission to hospital was unexpected and a result of ongoing pain issues. Duncan underwent surgery and is now recovering well."
We're glad to hear it!
It was revealed in May that Duncan had landed a role in Hollyoaks, as 'family man and good guy' Ryan.
At the time, the 38-year-old had tweeted his excitement at joining the show, telling fans: "Thrilled 2 finally announce & confirm I am about 2 start a new chapter in my life as a full time member of the @Hollyoaks cast. Can't wait."
