Mario Falcone on ex-fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh: "It wasn't meant to be"

Mario Falcone has said he doesn't think he and ex-fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh will ever rekindle their romance, admitting: "Some things just aren't meant to be."

Following Lucy's split with ex-boyfriend Louis Smith back in February, Mario had sparked speculation he and Lucy could be reuniting after publicly showing his support for his former flame.

He had uploaded (and then deleted) a cryptic Instagram post about people reuniting, and had re-tweeted tweets to promote Lucy's online fitness brand, Results With Lucy. However, Mario has now ruled out any hopes of himself and Lucy making a go of things again, insisting they will never now be more than friends.

Speaking to Daily Mail recently, Mario opened up about his ex, and when asked about whether they could get back together in the future, he said: "I think people would love to see that. We were a good couple at the time.

"People always want the happy ending and people like to aspire to that, growing up watching movies that are like that."

"But with me and Lucy some things just aren't meant to be," he claimed. "And it wasn't meant to be."

Mario explained: "We get along well. We say hello, have a drink, but that's all it is. I think that's all it will ever be."

Like Mario, Lucy has too ruled out a reunion.

Speaking to Fabulous magazine back in March, Lucy explained how she and Mario have reconnected. The pair were both invited to the same party, so naturally they spoke to say hello.

She said: "it was very strange because I hadn't seen him in so long, but we actually had a really lovely, adult conversation. It felt like we'd both grown up a lot and he seemed very mature and content.

Lucy admitted she did get a "funny feeling" seeing her ex again, but she put that down to their history together.

She added: "I never thought he was horrible person, but actually, he seems like he's really changed. But oh god, I can't even imagine myself with anyone right now."

Lucy and Mario dated for two years, and fans got to see the highs and lows of their relationship played out onscreen thanks to TOWIE. Mario had even proposed on camera during one of the show's Marbella specials back in June 2012.

They split nearly a year later in 2013.
