Louis had been a judge on the show since its launch back in , but last year, fans saw the Irish music mogul step down from the judging panel.
His hiatus was short-lived, however, and Louis is now returning to X Factor along with Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger. Speaking about his brief break away, Louis has said: "I think being away from the show was a really good thing for me, because ratings weren't good."
According to Daily Mirror, Louis said he knew The X Factor wasn't working last series and told Simon Cowell that he had "messed" with the show too much.
In a recent interview with Radio 2, Louis said: "I knew from watching the first show that it wasn't going to work, so I was going, 'Yes!' I called Simon really late that night and told him what I thought. I said, 'You've messed with it too much, it's not working.'
"He didn't say anything for a second and then he said, 'Maybe you're right.'"
Louis had been replaced by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and he joined Simon, Cheryl and Rita Ora on the judging panel. After eight years presenting on the show, Dermot O'Leary decided to leave, and Olly Murs and Caroline Flack were brought in to replace him.
This time round, however, it seems as if Simon is going back to basics. Louis, Sharon and Nicole are all returning this year, and even Dermot is back to take the reigns when it comes to hosting.
Reports have revealed that Simon is once again introducing room auditions, as they were seen before in earlier series of The X Factor.
Judge's auditions are set to start tomorrow (Friday 10 June) in Leicester.
