The Geordie Shore star, 28, was cautioned by police after an incident in Heaton, Newcastle where he posed on top of a car aiming an air rifle into the distance.
Scotty had posted a photo to Snapchat before removing it.
In a statement to The Sun, he said: "My mate had a low level air rifle in his car and I foolishly got it out to have a look at it and had some photos taken with it.
"I posted it on social media but then took it down. You know when you are in a giddy mood and do something which you think is harmless, but realise you shouldn't have done it? That times 1,000. I regret doing it and realise it was a foolish thing to do."
Scotty added: "Of course, I hope this doesn't impact on my career. It was meant to be a bit of mindless fun, that's all, but turned into something much more serious."
He denied reports he had been arrested, although a police statement this week said: "On Monday, May 30, a 28-year-old man was arrested and given a caution for possession of an air weapon in a public place."
Earlier this week, Scotty's rep told Daily Mail: "This was meant to be a mindless piece of fun, but Scott realises how foolish it was and apologises for wasting police time.
"Scott complied with police and was cautioned and released."
The Newcastle reality star, real name Scott Timlin, won Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, and can be seen in the current series of Geordie Shore: Big Birthday Battle on MTV. Although he missed the start of filming as he was in CBB, he will join the series again from next week.
He's also appeared in Ex On The Beach and is the current face of boohooMAN.
