Marnie Simpson has lamented Charlotte Crosby's decision to quit Geordie Shore, saying: "Today is an awful day."

Reality star Charlotte, 26, announced via Twitter on Wednesday (1 June) that she'd made the "very hard decision" to leave the MTV series, of which she's been a castmember since day one.

A rep for Charlotte confirmed her departure to Reveal.

Marnie shared this photo of her and Charlotte to Instagram, taken at the Geordie Shore 5th birthday celebration in May.

Reacting on social media, co-star Marnie said: "Today is sad day @Charlottegshore."

Marnie, 24, then added on Instagram: "Today is a awful day! Love you loads @charlottegshore us Geordies will always be there for you and have your back no matter what! And I hope that one day you will come home to Geordie shore (sic)."

Charlotte told fans her decision to quit was to avoid ex-boyfriend and co-star Gaz Beadle. They've been on and off over the years, but things reached a head this week when Charlotte revealed in a magazine interview she'd been hospitalised with an ectopic pregnancy while Gaz was filming Ex On The Beach in Thailand.

She accused Gaz, 28, of being a "liar" and "cheat", while he hit back saying he was single while filming EOTB and he'd offered her support throughout her hospital ordeal. Gaz also said the pregnancy should have remained private between them, accusing her of trying to turn public opinion against him.

After reading Gaz's column for the Daily Star today, in which he shared his side of the story following her Heat magazine interview about the pregnancy, Charlotte tweeted: "Sadly because a certain some1 can't admit to being in the wrong and have to write a short story full of excuses. I have made the very hard decision to Leave the show, it's something I have went back and forth with for a while now. (sic)."

Gaz responded via Twitter, saying: "You had your say I had mine.... Just leave it.... Or this will never end... Don't get angry if you don't like what I had to say... (sic)."
