The Canadian crooner released a heartfelt statement to fans, stating that he is being forced to "bow out" of several upcoming performances due to surgery.
Michael, 40, said: "To my fans, I wanted to let you know that I am bowing out of some upcoming events due to pending vocal cord surgery, which will require a period of time for me to rest and recover. No talking or singing for a while but my doctors expect a complete recovery."
He added: "Thank you in advance for your prayers and good wishes, I will keep you up to date on my progress. MB."
Michael had been due to receive an honour at The Canadian Governor General Performance Arts Awards Gala on 11 June. He will now receive it in June 2017. He has also cancelled another performance on 5 June in Washington, US.
The news came as Michael's wife, Argentinian model Luisana Lopilato, tweeted a new picture of herself, the singer and their youngest son cuddled up together in bed.
The couple, who are already parents to two-year-old Noah, welcomed little Elías into the world in January.
Michael joins a long list of famous singers who have needed surgery on their vocal cords, including British songstress Adele.
