TOWIE's Arg has admitted that he and girlfriend Lydia Bright are "on a bit of a break" but he's hopeful they'll get back together.

The Essex reality star – real name James Argent – has been in an on-off relationship with Lydia for the past seven years, starting way back when neither of them were on TOWIE or famous.

Viewers of the show know they've had several ups and downs over the years, and another one came along last week when it emerged they had once again parted ways.

In an interview with Heat magazine, out now, Arg said: "Me and Lydia are on a bit of a break at the moment. Of course I'm hoping that we'll get back together in the near future. She's away in Bali, which wasn't a holiday to get away from me. It was something she'd had booked in for a while."

Lydia's rep confirmed the split to Reveal but Lydia herself hasn't spoken out. Instead, she's been sharing a string of beautiful photos from her sundrenched holiday - and getting her first tattoo!

She did, however, share a cryptic Instagram alluding to the breakup. It read: "Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations #Indonesia #IslandLife."

The couple initially met at the Duke of Essex Polo seven years ago, and both appeared in the very first series of The Only Way Is Essex. Lydia eventually let the show in 2012, saying she needed to get away from then-ex Arg in order to move on, but she returned two years later.

Their romance picked up again and although there were issues - we watched as Lydia asked Arg to write a list of women he'd been unfaithful to her with and expressed concern at his drinking – they had seemed happy during the 17th series of the show, even flat hunting together in March.

At the time, Lydia told Arg: "Let's just clear it up, when we say family home, with a family coming in like five years. Because we are doing this, though, getting a house together we need to make it a pact that we can never break up with each other again."
