Former EastEnders star Ben Hardy said he didn't have a job lined up before he left.

The actor, who played Peter Beale in the BBC One soap, said he decided to leave because he would have been questioning himself had he stayed.

EastEnders' Ben Hardy bows out of the soap as market stall trader Peter Beale along with Lauren Branning - 24 February 2015.

Ben told Fault magazine: "No, I just left really. It's one of those things you've got to just get out there to do otherwise I might find myself waking up in 10 years wondering what could have been."

Ben joined 'Enders as the new Peter in April 2013, arriving on screen in June having taken over from Thomas Law.

His last appearance on screen as Peter was in February last year, when he and his pregnant girlfriend Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) left Walford behind to start a new life in New Zealand.

For Ben, he's now in a new role far away from Peter, as after heading to Hollywood, he landed the role of Archangel in the upcoming X-men Apocalypse movie.

"I went into playing Angel as a brand new character altogether," he told the magazine. "I'm drawing on Angel's character as dictated by the script and my own interpretation of him without worrying too much on past appearances."
