EastEnders star Johnny Labey is leaving the soap as Paul Coker

EastEnders star Jonny Labey is leaving the soap, it has been confirmed.

Johnny, who made his first appearance as Paul Coker in June 2015, will bow out later this year.

A rep for the soap told our colleagues over at Digital Spy: "We can confirm Jonny will be leaving the show later this year. We wish him all the best for the future."

Jonny also tweeted: "WOW Thank you for your support but there's still SO MUCH to happen for Paul so don't lose hope, this is JUST THE START! @bbceastenders."

It is believed that Jonny was written out from his role as Paul after one year, but his exit is set to be part of an explosive storyline.

Since arriving in Walford, viewers have watched Paul try to reunite his grandparents Les and Pam, and have followed his secret relationship with Ben Mitchell.

Jonny has already got a new job lined up too. He announced that he has landed the lead part as World War One poet Rupert Brooke in upcoming play Verge of Strife, which will start in August during the Edinburgh Festival.
