Marnie Simpson has revealed she got over her failed engagement with Ricky Rayment by returning to Geordie Shore.

Fans are still waiting to see Marnie return in the show's new series, but the 23-year-old has said going back into the Geordie Shore house was "the best way" for her to put her split with Ricky behind her.

"I didn't even think twice about going for it," Marnie said.

Speaking to The Daily Star, she explained: "Going back to Geordie Shore is the best way to get over a break-up... I just thought, 'I'm single now, I'm going to do it.' It was good to be back. Geordie Shore is my second home."

Viewers had watched Marnie wave goodbye to the show after Ricky popped the question to her in Greece last series.

Asking her to marry him, he had said: "I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I love everything about you. I love your smile, I love your eyes, your personality... I love everything. I want to be that couple that when we get old, we look back and we go, 'you know what we made it.'"

Despite being hesitant at first, Marnie finally accepted his proposal and later told her co-stars she was leaving the show to focus on her future with the former TOWIE star.

However, just months later in September last year, Marnie confirmed she and Ricky had split. While he has said he doesn't regret proposing to her, Marnie has since said getting engaged to Ricky was the "biggest mistake" she has ever made.

"I would go as far to say it was probably the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life," she revealed. "Only because I feel like [Ricky] was full of sh*t. He did it for one reason only and that was to get me off Geordie Shore."

Marnie has also hit out at Ricky for not being 'genuine.'

She recently told BANG Showbiz: "At the time I did love [Ricky] and I did think he was a genuine person, but now, when I look back and the way he is going on now with everything, I don't think he was."

Geordie Shore, meanwhile, returned last week and viewers were introduced to show newcomer Chantelle Connelly. She caused a stir with Chloe Ferry, after agreeing to go on a date with Scotty T - despite Chloe confessing to her that she is in love with him.

Geordie Shore continues Tuesday 22 March at 10pm on MTV.
