Ross is set to return to the BBC One soap as hard man Grant Mitchell but he has now admitted that he is "wetting himself" at the thought of going back.
News of Ross' return - even though it will be a brief one - was the most anticipated announcement from loyal 'Enders fans who have long been calling for him to make a comeback.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, Ross said: "I've had sniper rounds go through the wall behind me, and I'm quite cool under fire. I'm good at dealing with things like that. But I'm wetting myself at the thought of going back to EastEnders."
Ross' return as Grant comes as Peggy Mitchell (played by Barbara Windsor) will leave the soap for good in a storyline that will see her lose her battle with cancer.
While it will be an emotional exit, Peggy's storyline will reunite the Mitchell family - Phil (played by Steve McFadden), Grant and Sam (played by Danniella Westbrook).
"I'm panicking about everything," Ross adds. "About whether I've lost the ability to learn all the lines. About whether I can cope with it at all…I worry about letting people down, letting myself down. That's my biggest fear. It's going to be like going back to sixth form."
Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has already teased that the storyline - which will air this spring - will be "epic".
Dominic said: "It's gonna be epic. It's got to be epic! Everyone's got such high expectations for it."
