The One Direction star didn't explain why he made the comment, but it came amid headlines and reaction to his blossoming relationship with X Factor judge Cheryl.
Liam tweeted: "Wow the Internet is a dark place these days."
When one follower then asked if that's the reason Liam rarely tweets, he replied: "Yeah I find pretty much anything I say is held against me kinda takes the fun out of it."
Prior to those tweets, he hadn't been on the social media network since 26 February, and prior to that, 31 January.
While he may not be active on Twitter that much, he's been rather active on Instagram lately, first confirming his Cheryl romance by briefly changing his bio picture to one of them together, and then celebrating International Women's Day by calling Cheryl his "favourite woman" yesterday.
In a sweet message, he said: "Happy #internationalwomensday to my favourite woman in the world. Hope I make you as happy as u make me X."
Liam and Cheryl are thought to have begun dating after bumping into each other at the X Factor finale in December, after Cheryl's split from husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.
