Michelle Keegan's comic timing has been praised by Plebs star Tom Rosenthal following her appearance on the new series.

The former Coronation Street star will show fans a different side of her when she pops up in the ITV2 comedy series set in Roman times.

Speaking to Daily Star Sunday, actor Tom said: "Michelle is a very funny person. She was just great during filming. They always cast people in Plebs who are going to surprise. And I think she'll do that when it airs.

"She'll really impress people. It's great for her to be on the show.

Michelle's role on Plebs was revealed last October, with reports claiming she travelled to Bulgaria to film her scenes. Her character is said to be a "vestal virgin", an ancient maiden of Roman times who held a senior religious position.

As well as appearing in Plebs, the actress will soon begin work on the new series of BBC One army drama Our Girl, which will film in South Africa. She recently appeared in BBC drama Ordinary Lies and has a role in the movie Strangeways Here We Come.
