Earlier today, it was reported that Louis had been offered a total of £800,000 to re-join Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez Versini on the X Factor judging panel.
However, this has now been dismissed as pure speculation.
According to The Mirror, Louis held "protracted informal talks" with X Factor boss Simon last week about possibly signing an £800,000 deal to return to the show.
Although nothing had been signed or confirmed, a source told the paper it was likely a "deal would be done" as "Simon and Louis work really well together."
Now an X Factor spokesperson has had their say, telling our friends at Digital Spy, the recent rumours are nothing more than "speculation."
They said: "This is just speculation. No offer has been made."
A space has become available on the panel, after the exit of Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw. Earlier this month, Grimmy announced he has left The X Factor after just one series, insisting there is "no bad blood", he just prefers to watch the show on the tele.
Since news of his departure surfaced, Louis has been hotly tipped to replace Grimmy - although One Direction's Louis Tomlinson is a favourite for the job too.
He addressed such rumours while appearing at the BRIT Awards last month, making it clear he wants the judging role for himself.
The 24-year-old said: "It's really exciting. We've had no official conversation yet. But yeah, I mean, why wouldn't I [take it]?"
Both hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack have quit the show too. It's reported old host Dermot O'Leary could be taking back over this year.
