For the last couple of years, fans of the show have been hooked by Danielle and Lockie's on/off relationship. We were all rooting for the pair to rekindle things last series, but despite James wanting to, Danni told him it was "too late" for them to move forward as a couple.
Instead, the duo have gone their separate ways and, after reuniting with James in Gran Canaria recently to film TOWIE's new series, Danni has admitted she needs to get her head around her co-star not being her boyfriend anymore.
Speaking to Reveal, Danni exclusively told us she thought filming with Lockie overseas was going to be a lot easier than it was.
"I thought it was going to be a lot easier, where me and James hadn't seen each other over Christmas, so I thought it would have been fine. When we got there, though, the two new girls arrived and there was a situation where James went over to introduce himself and have a drink with them, it kind of made me feel a little bit like, 'That's my James.' He's not my James, though, and I need to get my head around that."
She admits she put up a front when she saw James chatting to the show's newcomers, Chloe Meadows and Courtney Green, and that led to her clashing with her co-star and James' BFF Pete Wicks. Danni explained she had pretended to Pete she wasn't bothered about James and he saw red.
Things got pretty heated between them, but Danni reassured us she and Pete are now all good. She added: "I think because I've come on TOWIE as James' girlfriend, it's been over two years now and it's always been Danni and Lockie, but now it's not Danni and Lockie - it just felt a bit weird."
Despite their relationship ending, James and Danni have managed to stay good friends. As things are amicable between the pair, they are often plagued by reunion rumours. People see they are getting on and instantly speculate whether the co-stars could be getting back together.
Sounds frustrating, but Danni admitted she would always prefer people to think that and things not be bitter with herself and James.
She told us: "I think people will always [question] that, even my own friends and family do. It's not [frustrating] because I totally get it. I would rather people say, 'Oh you two have got something,' when we're around each other than think they can't have us in the same room.
"We are all a big group. The boys are all my friends, he's friends with the girls and Bobby's good friends with both us, so it's nice that we can all go out for dinner."
She then compared their relationship to that of TOWIE's famous exes, including Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger.
Danni explained: "In the past, you've had like Mario and Lucy or Joey or Sam or Mark and Lauren and they can't be in the same room, but with me and James it's different. Yeah, I'm sure he does p*ss me off from time to time, but everyone respects that we really get on.
"Obviously there are times when new people arrive or I might hear something that I don't want to know and it can become awkward, but it's not normal going away with your ex, I'm just dealing with it."
We're glad to see dealing with it doesn't mean pushing Lockie in a pool or throwing a glass of red wine all over his face - even if it does make brilliant TV...
TOWIE returns this Sunday 28 February at 10pm on ITVBe.
