Hot on the heels of Nick Grimshaw's decision to quit as a judge, rumours are rife that the show's co-presenter Caorline could also be bowing out this year.
That hasn't come from Caroline or X Factor bosses, rather it's sources claiming Simon Cowell wants a dramatic shakeup of this year's show. (Which is pretty much the rumour every single year, right?)
According to The Sun, it's because of "negative feedback" for her co-presenting gig with Olly Murs. They replaced long-time host Dermot O'Leary but some viewers preferred the one-person hosting set up rather than having two.
An insider said: "Caroline's a really experienced broadcaster but the combination of two presenters just didn't work out."
That being said, the source added Caroline is very much in demand right now, and could now have the time to pursue a major West End role. She's also got the second series of Love Island coming up this summer.
Caroline and Olly previously co-hosted The Xtra Factor together on ITV2 for two years. Olly shot to fame on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, finishing runner-up to Joe McElderry. Caroline, meanwhile, hosted three series of Xtra Factor and two series of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here NOW!. She's also worked on live events including The Brit and The BAFTAS.
She said last year: "I'm beyond excited about presenting The X Factor with Olly. To have the privilege of doing this with someone who makes me laugh out loud is a massive bonus! I'm also incredibly lucky to have the best tips and support from my showbiz big brother Dermot. I'm not sure how I can live up to his long term residency but I know I can't let him down!"
Meanwhile, a rep for Nick announced last night that he's quitting after one year on the judging panel: "After careful consideration, Nick's decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year's X Factor. He loved working on last year's series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He remains a massive fan of the show and is looking forward to watching it this year."
There's no word on whether Rita Ora, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell will return as judges, or whether Olly Murs will remain as a host.
As always, reps for X Factor are saying no decisions have been made about the show yet.
