McFly star Dougie Poynter might be putting down his guitar, as rumour has it, he wants to head to LA to become an actor.

Despite a huge music comeback with McBusted, the McFly boys (Dougie, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd) have been taking a break from band life lately, as Harry and Tom both now have newborns to contend with.

While they'll be picking up dummies, changing nappies and fussing over their babies, it sounds like Dougie is hoping to get his hands on a few scripts and will be in Hollywood for pilot season.

Dougie's girlfriend Ellie Goulding recently revealed that he has started acting (she says he's a complete 'natural') and now, according to The Daily Star, the 28-year-old is keen to make his mark in the film industry.

A source told the paper: "While the bands are taking a bit of time off, Dougie has been busy networking across the pond. It's pilot season in LA, which is when a lot of casting decisions are made.

"He's not filmed anything, but he has had productive chats with some really important people out there."

While the source added that Dougie's visit to LA isn't a permanent move just yet, they did hint he could be setting up home across the pond for good if things were to work out.

But what would that mean for his relationship with Ellie?

At the end of last year, Dougie and Ellie briefly split after distance had put strain on their romance. Ellie is constantly touring across the world and Dougie had been pursing modelling work overseas - meaning the pair were forced to spend less and less time together.

At the time, a source revealed: "They are taking a break. Their work commitments have meant they have been spending more and more time away from each other and it has made it difficult to maintain their relationship."

However, Ellie and Dougie seemed to rekindle things earlier this year. While the pair are dating again, Ellie has insisted she and Dougie are taking things slowly and are having to be realistic about not being able to see each other as often as they might want to.

During an interview with Lorraine earlier this month, she said: "You know we work it out, we figure it out. We're pretty realistic with things and we're pretty sensible about it so we just see each other when we can."
