Big Ang - real name Angela Raiola - died at 3:01am on Thursday morning (18 February) after a year-long battle of stage 4 brain and lung cancer.
A statement was released via her official Twitter account announcing the sad news.
Her friend Vinnie Medugno said in the statement that she was "surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and closest friends".
Big Ang is survived by her two kids, Raquel and Anthony, and has six grand children.
She was first diagnosed with throat cancer last March after doctors discovered a tumour in her throat - it was removed shortly after. Big Ang thought she was in the clear, however, she later learned the cancer had returned and spread to her brain and lungs.
The full statement read: "It is with sad regret that we inform you that at 3:01 a.m. Angela Raiola peacefully ended her battle with cancer, and was called home. She was surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and closest friends. YOU, (Her fans) were some of the most special people in the world, and she loved you immensely."
"Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the very end. She truly went out richer than any monetary value could ever amount to. The family asks for privacy, and peace during this most difficult time. In typical Big Ang fashion, we know she would say 'Love you my babies!'
"This page will remain open as a celebration of who she was and will always be. It has been my esteemed privilege and honour to represent her in the highest regard via social media. Vinnie Medugno."
Big Ang had been a cast member of VH1's Mob Wives since its second season in 2012, joining the show as a the niece of Salvatore 'Sally Dogs' Lombardi, a deceased captain of the Genovese crime family.
