The actor, who plays Kirin Kotecha in the ITV soap, announced last night that he's bowing out, having filmed his final scenes in January.
But he's denied reports it's because of stress.
Taking to Twitter, he urged fans not to believe what they're reading in the papers, adding: "[They] have twisted my words."
He then posted a 27-second video saying: "I want to clear some things out. A lot of journalists seem to think I quit Emmerdale because I was feeling stressed out. This isn't the case at all guys. In short, my reason for leaving is to pursue other opportunities. I'm an actor and my journey doesn't end with Kirin. There are a lot of opportunities in the pipeline. I can't say too much but watch this space."
Adam had been quoted by some outlets as saying: "Where does a human being go when he's felt what Kirin's felt? So all of this stuff that I'd already done in the first year - it's stressful, really stressful."
Adam's character Kirin is currently involved in one of the soap's biggest storylines after Kirin knocked down Tess Harris in a drunk driving hit and run.
