The reality TV star, 25, revealed her big career news via Twitter on Saturday (6 February).
In a video message uploaded to the official The Only Way Is Essex Twitter page, Ferne told fans she won't be a regular feature on the ITVBe show anymore, but will return if any of her friends need her.
Alongside the message, a TOWIE spokesperson said: "Ferne clears up those #TOWIE rumours. Hear the woman herself, @fernemccann, set the record straight..."
In the video, Ferne says: "Many of you have been wondering if I will be returning back to Essex after my adventure Down Under.
"I have been super busy since I've been back from Australia, which means you won't be seeing as much of [me] on The Only Way Is Essex."
She then joked: "You might enjoy the break!
"However, if any of my friends ever need me or need my advice I will make sure I am back to Essex to help them."
Ferne joined the Essex reality show during series nine in 2013 and has been a central character ever since.
She won an army of fans after taking part in last year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and has been vocal about her aspirations to become an actress.
Earlier this year, Ferne travelled to LA to meet with important people in the TV and film industry.
She has also appeared on This Morning as a showbiz reporter.
TOWIE has been signed up by ITVBe until Christmas, with a potential three series planned in that time.
Series 17 will air later this year.
