Zayn Malik called off his engagement with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards back in August last year, but his new album 'Mind Of Mine' references their time together.

Speaking in an interview on Beats1, host Zane Lowe said, "There's a song on the record called 'It's You' which I can tell is a real centre-piece for the album. It's about the break-up of your relationship, clearly."

Zayn responded: "It's one of the more obvious lyrics in that song, but yeah. It's the situation that you're in, depending if you can be that person or not with the people that are around you."

Zayn started writing and recording his first solo offering just two months after he left One Direction in March 2015, which was three months before his split from the Little Mix singer was confirmed.

The former boy-band member acknowledged the link between his music and what was going on in his private life at that point, saying: "I just felt like I needed to put myself out there a bit on that because it was a form of therapy for me, and it did help me get through some s**t."

Yep, penning all those heartfelt lyrics certainly helped, as Zayn has moved on with new girlfriend Gigi Hadid, who stars alongside him in the steamy vid for his new single 'Pillow Talk'.
