The former Coronation Street actress will soon be heading to South Africa to begin filming for the brand new series, and she's been doing a lot of preparation.
Speaking at the National Television Awards at London's O2 Arena, Michelle told Reveal: "I've met lots of female medics and heard their stories. I'm obviously doing a bit of training myself in the gym and trying to get fit. You'd think I have to diet, but if anything I want to put on a bit of bulk, so I'm eating quite a lot at the minute."
In Our Girl, Michelle will play Corporal Georgie Lane in a new five-part series which will follow the British Army on a posting in contemporary Kenya.
Michelle continued: "I've known about it for so long. I just can't wait to get started now."
Despite going away for filming, her husband Mark Wright isn't planning on being too far away. He told us: "Of course, as long as I can. I'm busy myself so I'll have to go out and come back. It's a massive role for her."
While we'll have to wait a little while to see Michelle on our TV screens, we recently saw her in a completely different role as she took to the stage for Lip Sync Battle UK alongside Jason Manford.
Michelle added: "I felt like a popstar. I can't sing so that show's perfect for me. It was all in jest and I want to say the best man won!"
